How To Gurus Mac Support
Mac Users
Although our products are designed for the Windows operating system, they can be used successfully on a Mac.
Mac users will need to play the videos directly using QuickTime. All of the videos are located in the "files" folder and are numbered 01.avi and up. Simply double click on the video you want to watch and it should open up automatically in QuickTime. The video sequence matches the list on the back of the box or in the included list of videos booklet.
All of the demonstration and working files will work fine on a Mac and are located in the "materials" folder.
Any version Mac should be able to play these videos if your copy of QuickTime is up to date.
Troubleshooting
Macintosh Users
Although our products are designed for the Windows operating system, they can be used successfully on a Mac.
We rarely get trouble reports on Mac machines. The few we have identified are listed below. Both of these problems stem from a recent update to Apple QuickTime, this was an automatic update and you may not have noticed it. In both cases this impacts how Apple QuickTime handles playback of .avi files (the video format we use on our disks). If the solutions below don't help then you should be able to find more specific instructions by doing a search on Apple.com for avi video playback problems.
No Sound
- Mac OS X:
- The solution to solve the no sound or audio output is to reset the audio setting in Mac OS X to original configuration:
- Open “Audio MIDI Setup” (/Applications/Utilities/),
- then check the “Audio Output” setting.
- Change the “Audio Output” setting to 44100.0 Hz.
- Quit Audio MIDI Setup.
- If the Audio Output setting is grayed out or disabled, go to “Properties For” tab in Audio MIDI Setup, and select “Built in Output”.

- Mac OS X:
- Another possibility on the Mac is that you may need to update or reinstall the proper codec to run the avi video format.

No Video, Other playback issues
- Mac OS X
- Perian is an excellent QuickTime codec. It essentially replaces the Divx decoder, and it handles a lot of other formats, too.
- For AVI, and just about everything else that Quicktime ordinarly can't play, use the Perian plugin for QuickTime, which is free:

- Another thing to try is VLC, which covers a wide range of video formats/codecs.
